Jeremy Stand
He doesn't feel like he needs a subtitle
I'm not good at listening
Subtitle: Brilliant Do-Gooder
“Tara, your nerd is showing” he says to me one day.
Jeremy is what I think of as the quintessential modern man. He’s the type of man who is as comfortable playing cards with the guys sipping scotch as he is changing our children’s diapers and cooking with me in our 2-butt kitchen. This is to say that most everyone that knows him thinks he’s God’s gift. My brother-in-law and I distain this public opinion of him, after all, you just read what he said to me, and still think he’s a great guy don’t you?
Well how did my “perfect” husband with world domination ambitions get to be the way his is and still have people try to convince me how wonderful he is? (People, I’ve known him over a decade, I think I know how wonderful, and frustrating the man I married is already).
I think it all started as a child, as the first child of his 60’s era parents and first grandchild of immigrants on his father’s side, he was indeed the center of many peoples’ worlds. This may have encouraged his delusions of grandeur.
In university he studied at the school of his choice (Boston University) with his parent’s money under the pretence of getting a “liberal arts” degree in cultural (urban) anthropology. Here, I believe, is where he honed his skill at manipulating people and things to submit to his will. (Which, hopefully will help in getting start up cash) He is in fact my personal public relations manager for a reason as he has this uncanny ability to smooth any remark I make to anyone into a compelling argument they can't help but agree with. Its really quite startling to see it in action. Its like the force, but better.
These days you'll see Jeremy summoning up crazy working budgets for buildings some of you may end up living in as he works construction management. His true heart lies in urban development and planning as he too loves to tell people what to do. As he describes it, its like playing with giant LEGOS. Of course, he would tell you that all people deserve healthy, working, multi-use environments in which to foster community and personal growth... but why listen to him?
He became interested in strollers as we pushed our son around the city and got accosted by every make and model of parent out there wondering what we were pushing, how does it work, and where can I get one? He's naturally personable, and people inexplicably trust him. (This perhaps is because he is truly honest and makes others want to be better people including this aspiring empress, but please don't tell him this).
As a person who is all at once amazed and startled to find he has become an adult, Jeremy also loves to travel with his crazy wife, view bad or non-existent art, and collects comic books and Godzilla movies.
